![]() Various NPS classes exist, yet there has been little to no research comparing users of different classes, which is important as some classes of NPS might pose unique risks to susceptible individuals. Unfortunately, there is a lack of epidemiology data on use and exposures related to NPS in the US, particularly with regard to correlates and characteristics of users and exposures. ![]() ![]() Exposures related to synthetic cannabinoid receptor agonist (SCRA) use in particular have been increasing in the US in recent years ( 6, 7). Emergence of NPS and exposures related to NPS have also been increasing in the US ( 3– 7). In 2014, 101 NPS were discovered throughout Europe, and this was a substantial increase from the 41 NPS discovered in 2010 ( 1, 2). Novel psychoactive substances (NPS), also known as new psychoactive drugs, have been emerging at an unprecedented rate in the United States and worldwide.
